The Center for GIS at Towson University, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce and the U.S. Office of Economic Adjustment, recently released the redesigned Maryland Defense Network, a free tool that allows users to make meaningful connections, understand government contracting opportunities, grow business prospects, and assess the overall defense industry impact. The new redesign incorporates modern design elements with a focus on improving the user experience of the site, streamline access to the various modules of the tool, and additionally adds a new manufacturing directory and federal opportunity search as additional components of the site.
The new manufacturing directory gives the general public the ability to access manufacturing companies throughout Maryland. Navigating through the directory, users can search for companies by keyword, as well as advanced filters such as capabilities and special certifications. The tool also allows users to browse companies by category, including textiles and apparel, machinery, and fabricated metal. Once in the categories, users can see a list of companies, their addresses, websites, and other important information. Users also have the option to view a map of the companies and export the information into a CSV file for easy access.
Federal Opportunity Search
The other latest feature to be added to the Maryland Defense Network is the federal opportunity search. This tool allows users to learn about opportunities to contract with the Federal Government by searching government notices and solicitations. Users have the ability to search using keywords, department/agency/office, procurement type, and more.
As the Maryland Defense Network continues to grow, we look forward to adding and improving new features to help users easily navigate the site and find the best opportunities available to them.
