Earlier this year, I wrote about day trips offered at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Towson University. At the time we were finalizing plans for our first overnight trip—one that took Osher members to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY. We were also making plans to our first international trip—one that will take Osher members to Bordeaux, France.

- French Wine with an Expert
Towson University assistant professor of marketing, Philippe Duverger, has been sharing his love and knowledge of French wines to Osher members over the years in his class, “French Wines Demystified”. As a native of the Bordeaux region, Philippe’s early career was in the French hospitality industry where he studied at the Bordeaux School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. He is a trained chef and maître d’ and his culinary career got its start in the Bordeaux region. As a connoisseur of French wines, Philippe’s enthusiasm is immense. His wit and sense of humor add to his charm and bien sûr, he is very excited to have wine tastings in fantastic French châteaux with Osher members on this trip.

Speaking of Osher members, what better travel companions to share this experience with than your fellow classmates, their spouses, and friends (who we hope to become long-time Osher members too)? At Osher, we are happy to have a wonderful community of engaged learners who respect and appreciate one another. While not everyone on the trip may know each other prior to the program, Osher is the common bond that brings everyone together.
- The Setting
A magnificent port city in Southwestern France, Bordeaux is the hub for this ten-day wine studies tour. The program starts with a guided walking tour that introduces you to this vibrant city and cultural destination. We’ll enjoy wine tastings while touring the region’s world class vineyards and châteaux. Highlights of the trip include a tour of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion with its fascinating history and architecture; visit to Sarlat with a trip to its renowned market; to the town of Arcachon for a trip to an oyster farm with tasting; and a chance to celebrate Bastille Day with fireworks in Bordeaux!
