Since its beginning, Dr. Nancy Grasmick has been involved with the Towson University Professional Leadership Program for Women. She has led sessions, facilitated conversations with speakers, and has helped shape the program into what it is today.
We are very excited to announce that Dr. Grasmick has been named Ambassador for the TU Professional Leadership Program for Women.
As the leadership program expands and enters its fourth year in January, Dr. Grasmick will be instrumental in helping to develop relationships with our sponsors, networks, and partners at Towson University and throughout Greater Baltimore.

A Trailblazer for Women
Dr. Grasmick served as the State Superintendent of Maryland Public Schools for 20 years (1991–2011). She served 24 districts, 1,424 schools, and close to 900,000 students. She was the first female superintendent in Maryland and the longest-serving appointed superintendent in U.S. history.
Throughout her tenure, Dr. Grasmick has been driven to increase standards to advance student educational placements. Furthermore, her belief in advancing placements extends far beyond the classroom. “Women’s leadership is a circle,” states Dr. Grasmick. She uses that framework to engage female leaders and to not create one more hierarchical system to navigate.

Dr. Grasmick encompasses the most basic ideals of Towson University’s Professional Leadership Program for Women. She believes leaders of any kind cannot be everything; it is important for leaders to galvanize the people around them; and that engagement is key. And, that truly remains the benchmark of Towson University’s program.
Today, Dr. Grasmick serves as Towson University’s first Presidential Scholar for Innovation in Teacher and Leader Preparation. She is tasked with collaborating with TU’s seven colleges to transform the university’s teacher preparation program into a national model.
