Chantal is a senior studying business administration with a concentration in finance at Towson University, where she also works as a student intern for the Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI). RESI provides a wide array of economic and policy analysis services to better serve Maryland and our region. During her time with RESI, Chantal has worked on a variety of projects.

Chantal supports RESI projects by conducting research and analyzing data. She also works alongside staff on economic analysis projects for clients and state agencies. “One unexpected skill I’ve learned is being able to gather, arrange and process data while using different tools such as federal data sources. I’ve also learned to analyze large volume of it, preparing and presenting it in the right form for decision making and problem solving process,” said Chantal.

“I believe there are two rewarding projects I have worked on. First is a task regarding RESI’s Economic Outlook Forum, where they present a forecast for the economy in the upcoming year. I found the information I researched on disparities, and how different variables such as median household income vary among demographic groups very interesting. Second would be an independent research I conducted and a blog post on carbon pricing, providing in depth information on what it is, who is using it, what the international agreements are and its impact in the economy,” said Chantal.

Chantal’s advice for other students looking to gain real-world experiences during college? “Try to get an internship as soon as you can. That way you will be able to gain new perspectives, commercial awareness, develop new skills and highlight those you need. It also allows you to explore different career ideas and connect with professionals in the field you could ask for advice.”

After completing her bachelor’s degree, Chantal plans to work and gain experience with a multinational corporation, where she can apply her skills in both finance and psychology.
