Tell us a little about your background.

I graduated from University of Maryland in 2015 with a major in sociology. Originally I thought I would go into social work. After college, I received a job offer at a staffing agency and quickly fell in love with the HR profession. After three years with the agency, I moved into my current role at DALY Computers as a human resources assistant. I enjoy my position because every day is different. I am involved in all aspects of HR.

Why did you decide to take our Human Resources Certification Prep Course? How did you benefit?

I decided to take this course to further my knowledge of HR. Not having an HR degree required me to learn everything on the job. I wanted to become a professional in the field. After networking at my local SHRM chapter, I knew getting the PHR certification would be a great career step for me. I feel more confident in my role and am better able to serve my company’s employees.

Did you find any advantages to taking a self-paced course?

Yes! The flexibility for sure. I could do the course in the comfort of my house. Also, no commute. It was a Saturday class so doing it online saved me two hours of commuting. Also, one week I was on a trip and completed the course in my hotel room.

I enjoyed the flexibility of an online course but you still get the close connection with your classmates (we had our videos on) and were able to chat and email each other.  Ms. Hendy was extremely engaging so a virtual platform worked wonderfully!

Do you have advice for other who want to take a self-paced course?

Definitely take this course. I tried self studying and there is no way I would have passed without this course. Ms. Hendy really prepares you. The materials given to you are extremely helpful. Also, her quizzes modeled the exam. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it, truly!

Why did you choose Towson University Continuing & Professional Studies?

I searched for PHR courses in Maryland and there were not many offered. Towson University has a great reputation and after reading the course description, I felt it was right for me. Every counselor and staff member I spoke to was delightful.

Did you take your certification exam yet? Did you pass?

I took the exam a month and a half after the course finished. I would have done it sooner (I felt prepared from the course) but that is when the scheduling worked out. I did pass!

Anything you would like to add?

Ms. Hendy is a phenomenal teacher! It was a pleasure learning from her.
