Thank you for reading EngageTU—a monthly publication from the Division of Strategic Partnerships and Applied Research at Towson University. Take a few minutes to read about some of our accomplishments, impacts, and stories highlighting how we work to advance TU’s role as an anchor institution.
Strengthening & Growing Partnerships
The Office of Partnerships and Outreach continued to work across campus and with community stakeholders to support BTU: Partnerships at Work for Greater Baltimore.
Supporting Startups & Entrepreneurs
The StarTUp at the Armory had a record number of applications for the StarTUp Accelerator, hosted it’s first international venture, and continued to be recognized for its economic development efforts, including winning an INNO Fire Award by Baltimore Business Journal. For every dollar the StarTUp takes in, it generates nearly nine dollars of economic development.
Developing & Nurturing Leaders
The Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute marked its two year anniversary. During that time, ~1,200 leaders from across the region attended at least one public workshop and the Institute delivered customized programs for 32 organizations, including government agencies, non-profits, and corporations.
Advancing the Anchor Mission
Towson University’s impact as an anchor institution extends far beyond our campus community. “The RISE Zone designation will help Towson University leverage the immense creativity and talent of its people into meaningful economic growth for Baltimore County and for Maryland.”
Enriching Lives & Meeting Workforce Demands
At TU, learning isn’t limited to traditional undergraduate and graduate programs. The Center for Continuing and Professional Studies offers certification prep courses to meet workforce demands and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides adults, age 50+, opportunities for continued learning.
Providing Applied Research & Analysis Solutions
The Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) provided analysis, technical, and research services to businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to benefit our state and region. Eye on the Economy is the trusted source for data and analysis of Maryland’s economy and employment numbers provided by RESI of Towson University.
The Center for GIS (CGIS) worked with campus colleagues and clients to analyze and better understand GIS data to enhance information access and utilize technology to inform challenges and decision making.
