If you’re not too sick of hearing about it, Towson University Center for GIS (CGIS) has developed maps that break down Maryland’s 2024 election results by county. Thank you to my colleague Arianna Cacic for compiling the maps for this post.

Click the image below to take a look at outcomes for president, Maryland’s open Senate seat, and Question 1. We also have a few maps that compare presidential outcomes and turnout between 2020 and 2024.

Use the navigation links along the top of the map or scroll down to move between maps. Don’t forget to click on the counties to view pie charts and more information. Open the storymap in a new browser tab to view a larger version.

  • In terms of the presidential contest, two thirds of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions went red, a slight increase over 2020.
  • While the data released is still unofficial, Kent and Talbot counties are once again seeing very close results but swung red (instead of blue) in 2024. Frederick and Wicomico counties also had closer races but maintained the same party winner as in 2020. Check out county-level changes between 2020 and 2024 in this swipe map.
  • We also created a map to look at the change in votes for presidential party as compared to 2020. Here we can see that in every county, except Garrett, a greater share of votes was cast for the Republican candidate in 2024.
  • Comparing the turnout for the presidential contest between 2020 and 2024, there’s an overall decrease in turnout in most Maryland counties, with a more considerable decrease in the Democratic stronghold of central Maryland, and St. Mary’s County in southern Maryland.
  • The map for Senate contest winner largely matches the presidential outcomes, but with fewer close races.
  • Over 75% of Marylanders supported Question 1.  Question 1 received at least 50% support in every Maryland county, except Garrett, where the margin between for and against votes was just under 1,700.

Unofficial election results from the Maryland State Board of Elections as of 11/8/24.
